Designed for multi-purpose use, featuring coworking rooms, a flexible media library/common area, and an external cafeteria/sitting area, the project was conceived as a meeting ground for people across different departments and an idea incubator. Its central glass container, enveloped by a wave-like structure, serves as both a dynamic interpretation and protection from the city’s unpredictable weather. The interior is meticulously crafted to transform into one, two, or three rooms as needed, with furnishings and walls facilitating various spatial configurations.

Informed by a comprehensive data approach, including participatory workshops and computational design, the building’s wave-like shape reflects the synthesis of gathered information, as well as the client’s vision of surfing the ever-changing waves of their industry.

The steel canopy is covered in a unique roofing system made from custom-patterned TetraPak and polycarbonate sheets. Chosen for both practicality and visual impact, these materials provide excellent thermal insulation and dampen noise during heavy rain. Notably, the TetraPak component, made from recycled packaging, contributes to the building’s sustainability efforts. Achieving the structure’s unique pattern involved using parametric design, resulting in a captivating interplay of light and shadow on sunny days, while evoking the serenity of the sea even on the rainiest days.

Constructing the curved canopy presented a significant challenge, demanding a design-to-production process that relied on experimentation and prototyping. Through trial and error, the team discovered that efficiency and flexibility could coexist. By placing the pieces diagonally, they not only achieved the desired aesthetic but also ensured proper water drainage and adapted the sheets to the deck’s curvature.
